Importing from Google Calendar
Effortlessly import contacts from your Google Calendar, including everyone you've sent or received calendar invites from.
Getting Started
- Before initiating the import, make sure you have your Google Calendar synced to Dex account. If you haven't, check out the guide below:
Navigate to the Import page
Go to the Import page and select 'Google Calendar Contacts'.
Select the contacts you want to import
The popup window will display contacts you have existing events with. It'll also show you how many events you have with each contacts. Select all the contacts you want to import and click on 'Import Contacts'.
Check all the contacts and/or do a Merge and Fix
Once contacts are imported, you can check all the imported contacts under the group 'Imported from Google Calendar'. From this popup window, you can quickly check the contacts and/or do a Merge and Fix.
Contacts Dex adds from your calendar on its own
The import above is a one-off. Dex can also create contacts from new calendar events as they arrive. The setting is Automatically add contacts from calendar events, under Settings → Workflow → General. On mobile it's From calendar events, under Automatically add contacts.
Contacts created this way go into a group called From Calendar.
What it does:
- It reads your calendar, so an invitation you never accepted still creates contacts. A spam invite that lands on your calendar is treated like any other event.
- It adds the organizer and the invitees. People who declined are left out.
- It works forward only. Switching the setting on doesn't go back through your calendar history.
- It skips addresses that look automated, such as no-reply and notification senders. There's no filter on how many people are on the event, and none on the sender's domain.
To clear out what's already there, open the From Calendar group, select every contact in it, and archive them from the selection toolbar that appears. Deleting them outright comes afterwards, from the Archive page. See Managing your Contacts.
