Importing from Facebook
Start importing your Facebook contacts with Dex, complete with birthdays!
When you import from Facebook, you can:
- Import birthdays: stay informed about upcoming birthdays and receive notifications for contacts you care about.
- Facebook Profile Images: enhance your Dex contacts with profile pictures from Facebook.
Before you begin:
Download and install the Dex for Chrome extension.
Login to your Facebook account
Navigate to the Import Page and click 'Facebook'
You can go to the import page here.
- You'll be prompted to install the extension if you haven't already.
- After confirming, the Dex extension start the import process.
The Dex extension will scroll through your friends list and birthdays to add this information to Dex. All of your information is private only to you, and you can delete your data at any time.
Completing the import process
Once the Facebook import process has concluded, you'll see:
- How many contacts were imported or updated from Facebook
- The number of contacts added from Facebook
If you run the import process more than once, existing contacts will not be duplicated (and will instead be updated).
Can I see my Facebook or Messenger messages in Dex?
No. The Facebook connection reads your friends list and their birthdays, and nothing else. Your Facebook conversations and Messenger chats are not imported, are not synced, and never appear on a contact's timeline.
What the Facebook import does bring across:
- Friends as contacts, with their names and profile images
- Birthdays, which then feed your birthday reminders and digests
- Profile details picked up from the profile page when you add someone with the Dex extension
Dex does sync messages from some other channels — see WhatsApp, iMessage and Instagram.
